MILWAUKEE – (October 29, 2007) – The City of Harrodsburg, Kentucky., has signed a $1.8 million performance contract with Johnson Controls, Inc. to update its water meters and integrate them with the city’s billing system. It is expected that the project will eventually pay for itself through a more accurate meter reading system and operational savings generated over the life of the contract.
“The benefits of this project are really two-fold,” said Mayor Lonnie Campbell. “Through this project, Harrodsburg is greatly enhancing its technology platform, with no additional rate or tax increases for residents.”
This project will allow the city to more accurately bill residents and businesses for water usage by replacing 3,700 meters with more precise equipment. A new automated meter reading system will improve operations by decreasing reading errors, avoiding trips to homes for readings and catching anomalies far in advance of billing. By recognizing issues in real-time, the city will be able to identify water leaks at residences or businesses immediately, resulting in decreased response time and associated costs.
“This project will significantly improve communications, increase efficiency and generate substantial savings for the city,” said Dave Peters, regional solutions manager, Johnson Controls. “Harrodsburg is a great example of a Kentucky community taking an innovative approach to infrastructure improvements.”
