MILWAUKEE, July 31, 2007 -- Johnson Controls, Inc. (NYSE: JCI), Wisconsin’s largest public company, today announced expansion and remodeling plans for its global headquarters campus in Glendale.

The expansion is the direct result of the growth the company continues to see across its businesses and global markets. Last week the company reported record quarterly sales of $8.9 billion (compared with $8.4 billion for the same period last year).

In addition to serving as the company’s global Corporate headquarters, the campus is also the headquarters for its Power Solutions business. As the world’s largest supplier of automotive batteries, Johnson Controls has also emerged as a leader in lithium-ion technology, which will power the next generation of hybrid-electric vehicles. A Battery Technology Center and the North American lithium-ion Battery Research Center are also on the 33-acre site.

“We’ve seen significant growth in our global businesses and expect the growth to continue,” said Bruce McDonald, executive vice president and chief financial officer. “The changes we’re making will help our Glendale-based team meet the expectations of our customers and the employees we support in our businesses around the world.”

“We’ll improve employees’ work environment, utilizing space more efficiently throughout. There will be more conference and team rooms plus informal work spaces and many more windows, with a walking path winding through the naturally-landscaped campus,” he said. McDonald also noted that Johnson Controls’ commitment to creating “smart environments” – making the places where people work more comfortable, safe and sustainable – will be a key element of the project and will enable the company to showcase its own use of the ingenious solutions it provides to customers around the world.

“We’re looking at a number of sustainability features, including use of more natural light, high-efficiency fixtures, biofiltration of runoff, permeable paving, geothermal heating and cooling, and recycling,” he said. “Our goal is to achieve the top-level certification for the campus based on Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards.”

The existing office spaces on the campus, which were constructed in the 1970s, are being gutted and remodeled in the two-year project. Also during that time, a new two-story office building will be added to serve as the global headquarters for the Power Solutions business, as well as an amenities building connecting the new office building to the existing structures. Finally, a 300-car parking structure will be built to further accommodate this growth.

The first phase of the project launches in August, after most Power Solutions employees relocate to a temporary office location on Milwaukee’s far northwest side. Approximately 700 employees currently work at the Glendale campus.
