MILWAUKEE, WISC. – (January 24, 2007)–Johnson Controls, Inc., last month celebrated the one-year anniversary of its acquisition of York International Corp. and is planning a “One Year Later” media event January 29 in Dallas. The event will highlight accomplishments that positively impact the HVAC&R industry, distributors and customers of the combined business.
The December 2005 acquisition of York increased the revenues of Johnson Controls’ global Building Efficiency business from $6 billion to $12 billion. The new business improved its leadership position in energy management and building systems and services, serving customers in 125 countries from more than 1,000 locations. The contribution of the Building Efficiency business was recognized recently by Forbes magazine, which named Johnson Controls one of “the best-managed big companies in the U.S.”
“Johnson Controls' growth and profitability qualify it squarely for our list . . .,” Forbes reported. “Its performance record is impressive: 60 consecutive years of revenue growth, 16 of profit growth and 31 of dividend growth . . . n the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, net income rose 14 percent to $1 billion on revenue of $32 billion, up 17 percent.”
“The most explosive growth is coming from the building efficiency group, where revenues are expected to jump 25 percent in 2007,” Forbes reported.
C. David Myers, president of the Building Efficiency business, recently reflected on the events of the past year. “When we officially announced the acquisition, we did so under the theme Together We Can Do More,” said Myers. “We did that based on customer research, and customers have indicated their preference for a single provider for their entire HVAC&R and building management system.”
“Johnson Controls and York were able to work productively from the very start, and we are pleased with the progress in year one,” Myers continued. “We now provide the largest truck-based HVAC&R services organization and provide customers access to more integrated systems and services; a single source for enhanced HVAC&R, controls, fire and security systems.”
Flagship products include the Metasys building management system that provides more control and easier access to information than any other system of its kind. It incorporates open systems technologies of both the building automation and the information technologies industries. The result is a system that integrates all building equipment, organizes the information in the most logical way and delivers it where and when needed.
On the equipment side, York brand unitary products and engineered systems deliver superior energy efficiency, a broad choice of refrigerants and compressor technologies, plus specialized systems like the FlexSys™ underfloor air distribution system that contribute to green building and sustainability goals. Johnson Controls also provides a wide range of energy, operations and facilities management services, with more than 1 billion square feet of space under management globally.
The new, $370 million IRS Kansas City Campus, which opened this month, demonstrates some of the capabilities of the Johnson Controls/York team. The project uses a 26,000-control-point Metasys building management system and a YORK FlexSys underfloor air distribution system that serves more than half of the facility’s 1.14 million square feet of office space.
“The complementary capabilities of the two businesses created an offering that is reshaping our industry,” said Myers. “Customers benefit from our ability to serve the low, mid and high-end marketplace and do it globally. In addition, I believe they are seeing efficient service delivery and lower costs.”
